East Carolina University (ECU) is a public, coeducational, research intensive university located in Greenville, North Carolina, USA. ECU is the third largest university in North Carolina with an enrollment of over 23,000 students and the fastest-growing campus in the University of North Carolina system. ECU offers 106 bachelor’s, 71 master’s, 4 specialist degree programs, 1 first-professional MD program, and 16 doctoral programs. ECU name is derived from being the first college East of Raleigh and is considered the flagship of Eastern North Carolina. The University is home to many colleges including one of the top Medical Schools in the country, Brody School of Medicine and top ranked College of Education.

After ECU became a college, it expanded its curriculum beyond education. Today, ECU is the third largest university in North Carolina with 17,537 undergraduates and 4,278 graduates. The students are served by 1,606 faculty members and 4,767 staff members.

ECU's Division I sports team are called the Pirates. They compete in the Conference USA in all sports. The last national championship came in baseball in 1961.
