The Florida State University (commonly referred to as Florida State or FSU) is a public research university located in Tallahassee, the capital city of Florida. Florida State University is a Comprehensive Doctoral Research University with medical programs involving very high research activity as determined by the Carnegie Foundation. The university comprises 16 separate colleges and institutes that offer more than 300 programs of study, including professional programs. Active in doctoral graduate research, Florida State University awards over 2,000 graduate and professional degrees each year. Florida State University is one of the two flagship universities in the State University System of Florida. Established in 1851, the university is the oldest continuous site of higher education in the state of Florida.
